Jim McDonnell Lake Swims

The Jim McDonnell Lake Swims are hosted by the Reston Masters Swim Team in Lake Audubon, Reston.  The 1 and 2 mile swims are held each year on Memorial Day weekend. The swims have been running since 1988.

Jim McDonnell was a long-time Reston, Virginia resident and involved as a coach of Reston summer league swim teams, coaching several of the current Reston Masters Swim Team members when they were young swimmers. McDonnell was a member of the first Reston Master Swim Team lake swim committee and the lake swim Safety Director for many years.

Following Jim's death of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1998, the Reston Masters Swim Team changed the name of our event to honor him and began giving to charities that have an association with current Reston Masters Swim Team Members.  Gold and Silver Sponsors earn a place on our race T-Shirt.

Commercial timing company: check, professional life guards: check, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue: check. That's it, everyone else involved with the event is a volunteer.  We always need help, some year round but particularly on race weekend.
